AN EMACIATED bull breed dog is continuing to progress in his recovery after he was found straying in Rhyl.

Bobby the dog was found by a member of the public in the Princes Street/Elwy Street area of Rhyl on New Year’s Eve.

He was then taken to Prospect House Veterinary Clinic and Hospital in Colwyn Bay, before his care was passed on to North Clwyd Animal Rescue and K999 dog behaviourist services.

Adam Hobbs, dog behaviourist from K999, shared a video update on Facebook, having had Bobby in his care for a week now.

In that time, he has put on weight at a healthy pace, and is 0.6kg heavier than a week ago.

He said: “I'm so impressed with how he has progressed this week.

“He's putting on weight well, getting stronger every day, constantly looking for the next thing to meet, explore, investigate or get a fuss from.

“His energy levels are unbelievable, it really feels like he's making up for lost time.

“His confidence is growing rapidly, too; he's now doing steps with much more ease and can even climb up on the couch now for a cuddle.

“His sleep is much deeper, more consistent and nothing like the fitful disturbed sleep of just a few days ago. He still prefers the heated dog bed, though.”

Despite his impressive progress, Adam stressed that Bobby “still needs careful management”.

When he is healthier, Bobby will be put up for adoption through North Clwyd Animal Rescue.

He had minor bite wounds, scratches and bald patches when he was first found on New Year's Eve, and weighed just 15kg.

Last week, the RSPCA launched an appeal for information as to how Bobby was left in such a poor condition.

Adam added: “Bobby still needs careful management, both with his feeding regime, the amount and type of exercise we do with him, how he interacts with everything he meets, just to ensure he continues to progress into the calm friendly socially acceptable dog I know he can be.

“I would like to thank everybody who has contributed positively to his plight and journey, either in donations, post shares, positive comments, likes and just general support.

“North Clwyd Animal Rescue are amazed at the generosity of our animal loving community especially during such difficult financial times.”

Following Bobby’s discovery, RSPCA animal rescue officer John Littlewood said: “The dog is very underweight and is not in a good condition - you can see every rib sticking out of his body and he is weak.

“But he is a very friendly dog and is constantly wagging his tail.

“He wouldn’t have gotten this skinny overnight and it is concerning that he may have been in this state for some time.

“He might be a stray dog or he may have been abandoned - we’re hoping anyone who has any information about the dog will be able to help us establish how he came to be in this situation.”
