RHYL Little Theatre will be putting on two musicals this summer - Footloose: Youth Edition and Annie Jr!

The group's 11 to 18-year-olds are getting ready to ‘cut loose’ when they present their production of “Footloose: Youth Edition”. This will begin on June 27 (supported by older cast) who will ‘stick up their chin and grin and sing ‘Tomorrow!’ while they present “Annie Jr” beginning on July 25.

Footloose: Youth Edition is a one-hour version of the musical specially designed for young performers. A total of 40 young people will be led by director Caitlin Armitage Conway.

The musical celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. 

Annie JR. follows the story of an orphan named Annie living a “hard-knock life” at The New York City Municipal Orphanage run by the "cruel" Miss Hannigan. Annie dreams of being reunited with her parents and takes action to find them.

Annie Jr features 60 young people led by director Katie Brewerton.

The Little Theatre was taken on by new management in 2020 [by Arlena Thornton and Danni Moore] and since then, young performers have undertaken productions such as Legally Blonde Jr, Oliver Jr, High School Musical Jr and Frozen Jr.

In a statement, Ms Thornton and Ms Moore said: “The talent and determination of our children has grown and grown since 2020 and their passion for musical theatre is shown immensely through these named productions.

"Footloose and Annie are set to bring a lot of energy and fun while the children make memories for life.

"A lot of hard work is going on behind the scenes to bring these shows together and there are still plenty of opportunities for volunteers to get involved.

"With many updates taken place at the theatre such as new heating and a fresh facelift, we look forward to welcoming our audience.”

The Rhyl Little Theatre will present Footloose: Youth Edition from June 27-29, and Annie Jr from July 25-27.
