A TRIO of cousins from Rhyl came together to make Christmas hampers, filling them with useful items for families who are currently homeless or in financial hardship.

Alysa Williams, 10, was supported by her two cousins Roman and Chico Espley, all of whom are students of Ysgol Bryn Hedydd.

The boxes came from an idea which Alysa’s mum, Lisa, had to give back to the community.

Seren Dream, a shop in Rhyl helping small businesses which Lisa co-runs, put together a collection to help make these boxes, but the packing of each box was done by the three children.

Lisa said: “It is really important for young people to understand not everyone is as fortunate, so to give back is really important to me and also to illustrate this to my children.

“I am so proud of my daughter and her cousins; they were so enthusiastic and got really stuck into creating the boxes.”

The shop received lots of items, from children’s games, bath bombs, homeware, colouring books, sticker sets, playdough and much more, with in excess of 150 donations in total.

Roman and Chico also hand-wrote some cards to put inside the boxes, as they wanted to make the person who received them smile.

Of the 28 boxes made, 14 have been donated to Blossom and Bloom, a charity that helps safeguarding women with young babies in Rhyl.

The remaining hampers will be donated to the Foryd Community Centre and its foodbank.

Geraint Evans, headteacher of Ysgol Bryn Hedydd, added: “We at Ysgol Bryn Hedydd are very proud of the children and their efforts in helping others that are less fortunate than others.

“To take it upon themselves to help with the hampers for the homeless with food, toys, toiletries, and some treats is a testament to their understanding of how we are all part of the community, and we need to help each other.

“Well done to them for being so kind and thoughtful – fantastic.”
