BRITANNIA Hotels is not currently entering into negotiations regarding Pontins’ Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park following its closure last week, the Journal understands.

The park, which opened in 1971 and has been owned by Britannia Hotels since 2011, closed effective immediately on Thursday, November 30.

Employees were told that the park has shut due to a decline in business, with the site projected to make a financial loss in 2024.

Today (December 7), the Journal has learnt that, while Britannia Hotels is inviting offers for Prestatyn Sands, it is not yet prepared to enter into negotiations about the site.

A statement from Britannia Hotels, shown to the Journal and believed to have been sent to a potential investor, read: “We are receiving many enquiries for our sites.

“Therefore, we are asking any interested parties, if they wish to, to make an offer.

“However, we will not be entering into negotiations at this current time.”

James Davies, the Vale of Clwyd MP, has written to a dozen successful holiday park operators to encourage them to look at acquiring the site, meanwhile.

Earlier this week, staff who were working at Prestatyn Sands when it closed last week told of how they were made aware of its closure by Facebook or word of mouth.

The park was also known as the location for the shooting of the 1973 film, Holiday on the Buses.

It was one of the two Pontins parks which closed on November 30, along with the chain’s site in Camber Sands, East Sussex.

Pontins and Britannia Hotels have been approached for comment.
