A PROPERTY in Rhyl known as a “house of dread” was the location for an episode of the television programme “Help! My House Is Haunted” which aired last night (November 12).
The show, which you can watch on Discovery+, involves a team of experts who travel the UK looking into instances of paranormal activity in the homes of ordinary people.
Yesterday’s episode, the ninth of its fifth series and entitled “Bad Luck Bungalow”, focused on the home of Rhyl residents Jacqueline and Dan, said to have been plagued by paranormal activity.
This had included “intimidating impressions” and “terrifying spirits”.
For instance, Jacqueline said she and Dan returned from their honeymoon to find a twisted log on their guest bedroom floor, while Dan once heard a baby crying in the middle of the night.
During the episode, investigator Jayne Harris also visits the 1891 bar and restaurant to meet Bethan Briggs-Miller, a paranormal researcher who hosts the podcasts “Eerie Essex” and “Spectre of the Sea”.
There, Bethan tells her of Rhyl’s “very interesting” past, including that the house in question is near one of the supposed sites of the Battle of Rhuddlan Marsh.
Bethan also tells her the story of Sarah Parry, a woman believed to have often been seen walking with a large stick, but died from drowning, and whose ghost would apparently mimic people.
Jayne, along with fellow investigators Barry Ghai and Ian Lawman, uncover a number of spooky goings-on in the house, including voices appearing to mimic their own and a secret door behind a mirror.
The full episode is available to watch now with a Discovery+ subscription.
Bethan said: "This case was one of those rare times that you get one of those satisfying moments where everything seems to fit together.
“Not only narrowing down the potential identity of a spirit, but uncovering a dark and fascinating landscape.
“No wonder there are supernatural shenanigans afoot!”
Filming for the Rhyl episode took place in mid-March, and marked a first visit to Rhyl for Bethan, who herself hails from South Wales.
She also enjoyed a trip to Les Harkers Amusements on West Parade with her mother, where they “desperately tried to win a Grogu!”
