A WOMAN from Ruthin who was headbutted, kicked and suffocated by her former partner has been praised for her “remarkable courage” following his sentencing.
Samantha Machin was subjected to a drunken attack by William Machin, 33, of River Street, Rhyl on August 6.
At Caernarfon Crown Court yesterday (October 19), Machin received a 25-month prison sentence.
Judge Rhys Rowlands also imposed a five-year restraining order, banning Machin from having any contact with Ms Machin, entering Ruthin, or referring to her on social media during this time.
The court had heard that an argument which ensued between the two at Ms Machin’s Ruthin home led to him punching and headbutting her in the face.
He later placed a cushion over her face as she lay on the floor, before her neighbours later found her with her face “covered in blood”.
After the hearing, investigating officer, Detective Constable Mike Taggart said: “As with all cases of domestic abuse, a thorough investigation took place following this shocking incident to ensure a positive outcome and the sentence that has been received today.
“This case involved a sustained violent assault on a vulnerable victim, and I commend her for her remarkable courage throughout the investigation.
“If you or someone you know is suffering from domestic violence and can find the courage to come forward, please get in touch with us. We have dedicated officers who are specially trained to support you.
“We are committed to pursuing anyone who commits violence against women and girls, and we will continue to bring offenders to justice.”
