A ROAD outside a Rhuddlan school was closed off during drop-off and pick-up times in an attempt to boost walking and cycling.

Hylas Lane, outside Ysgol y Castell in Rhuddlan, closed to "non-essential traffic" on Tuesday, October 17 as part of a “School Street” trial, in partnership with Denbighshire County Council and walking and cycling charity, Sustrans.

The trial is being carried out to understand how to make travelling actively in the area more accessible, safer, and more enjoyable for the whole community and to encourage more journeys to be taken on foot or cycle, instead of by car.

Trials were held in Ysgol Bryn Hedydd on October 3 and at Ysgol y Gwernant and Ysgol Bryn Collen in Llangollen last week.

A spokesperson from Denbighshire County Council said: "Denbighshire County Council, along with its partner on the School Street trial, Sustrans, will be gathering feedback on the trials in all four schools.  Once the feedback has been collated from all four trials, Sustrans will provide a written report to the council, which will be shared with the respective schools, participants and residents.
