A CRAFT fair is to become a weekly event at a community hub in the centre of Rhyl after a “great” first event yesterday (October 15).

"High Street Hwb", at 1-4 East Parade, hosted the event, which ran from 8.30am until 4pm and comprised more than 30 stalls.

After opening last year under Rhyl businessman Stephen Wright (Sovereign Trophies), Tom Ward (Wardy's Gaming, Colwyn Bay) is now helping with much of the hub’s day-to-day running.

Craft fair, ‘homework stations’ and gaming area introduced at Rhyl community hub

Tom said: “Yesterday was great. It was the first one, but we are now going to be holding these every Sunday.

“Sellers can set up from 7am on Sunday morning, or from 5pm on the Saturday.

“We had a lot of different stalls, so we are hoping there will be a little something for everyone. It is open to the public from 8.30am to 4pm.

“If anyone would like to book a table, please message the High Street Hwb Facebook page.”

The site that the hub occupies was previously used by Woolworths and Gala Bingo, before it was left abandoned after a £1.5million cannabis farm was found there in 2021.

Among other new plans for the hub are its “homework stations”, a gaming area, a “community camp”, and a “rent-a-shelf” scheme.

In May, a designated soft play area for those aged five and younger was opened, while the hub has also introduced a pool table, dart boards and a board game area.

The hub also offers free printing for CVs, job applications and missing pet posters, and no charge for any good causes who need to use the space.

It also operated as a storage and drop-off point for a toy giveaway it hosted last Christmas.

There are also plans for a foodbank to be set up at the hub, as well as a “school uniform exchange”.
