THE mother of a pupil at school in Rhyl has said she and other parents are “in uproar” amid plans to close a nearby road tomorrow (October 3).
Ysgol Bryn Hedydd, a primary school on Spruce Avenue, will be used for a “School Street” trial, in partnership with Denbighshire County Council and walking and cycling charity, Sustrans.
This is part of an initiative to encourage pupils to walk, cycle or “wheel” all or some their way to school.

But one mother said the plans have been marred by “frustrating timing” and “little explanation” having been provided by the school itself.
Spruce Avenue will close to “non-essential traffic” during school pickup times tomorrow.
She said: “We have been told by the headteacher that we are not to use the road during school drop-off/pick-up times and instead, need to park in Rhyl Rugby Club, which is a 15-20 minute walk with seven-year-olds.
“This is, obviously, frustrating timing, which has been launched at the same time as the 20mph speed restrictions.
“There will be stewards at the top of the road of Spruce Avenue, questioning why parents are wishing to drive down the road.
“Not only do I foresee chaos, but parents are in uproar as there has been little explanation from the headteacher as to why this is happening.”
In response, Denbighshire County Council said all will be welcome to share their thoughts on the trial after it has taken place.
A council spokesperson said: ““School Streets are principally about getting children to be more active by walking, cycling or wheeling all or some of their journey to school.
“This trial is intended to gather information to see how School Streets work operationally.
“As part of the School Street, Spruce Avenue will be closed to non-essential traffic during the school pickup times, between 8-9.15am and 2.30-3.45pm on this date.
“Residents, emergency services, school transport, blue badge holders, deliveries and carers of residents on the street will all still be given access to the street.
“There will be an opportunity for everyone who took part in the trial to offer their views and feedback after the event.”
