A MAN from Rhyl has pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Gareth Parry-Jones, 74, of Wellington Road, admitted the offence at Mold Crown Court this morning (September 29).

He will be sentenced on October 26, but was told he is unlikely to be jailed.

Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing told the court that, on December 21, 2022, Parry-Jones carried an air rifle, with the intent of causing Jamie Collins to believe that unlawful violence would be used against him.

The weapon, in fact, “seemed to be unloaded at the time”, Ms Downing said, but the incident left Mr Collins “initially shocked, then angry”, before he confronted Parry-Jones.

Parry-Jones will attend a probation appointment prior to his sentencing.

Judge Niclas Parry, presiding over today’s hearing, told him: “Providing you’re sensible, and you keep the appointment with the probation officers, you’re not going to prison; I’m telling you that now.”

“Don’t point any guns at anybody.”
