Following debate in the council chamber, Cllr Jason McLellan, council leader and lead member for economic growth and tackling deprivation said: “BIDs are a good thing, and can have a very positive role to play in the regeneration agenda.
“I believe that Rhyl BID can continue to play a significant role in the regeneration of the town.
“Rhyl BID has delivered some positive initiatives in its first term, and we should be clear that those events, initiatives, and the support it provides to businesses in the town will stop if the BID doesn’t continue.
“Today’s cabinet decision supports the BID and underlines the council’s commitment to working in partnership for the betterment of Rhyl.”
Welsh Government is also supportive of Rhyl BID, highlighting “the positive role that the BID could play in the town’s regeneration strategy”.
Rhyl BID work supports Denbighshire County Council’s Corporate Plan commitment to work collaboratively with communities and partners to deliver projects and initiatives that will stimulate economic growth.
It also brings together stakeholders to develop a financially sustainable partnership to support improvements in Rhyl.
Abby Pilling, Rhyl BID manager, said: "Rhyl BID is looking forward to dedicating five more years to supporting our proactive Rhyl businesses at the grassroots level, as outlined in our draft business plan.
"This draft plan was created following feedback from our member businesses, and includes:
- "The continuation of our valued Town Ranger programme and our in-house and online training portal for staff.
- The expansion of our popular events programme and collective marketing opportunities.
- The implementation of a streetscape programme.
- A proposal for a return to partial live-monitoring of CCTV, which we hope will be adopted by the North Wales CCTV partnership."
