THE friend of a man from Rhyl who died last week has set up an online fundraiser page in his memory to help cover funeral costs and living expenses for his family.
Piotr Majka died on Tuesday, September 11 at the age of 52, and is survived by his sister, Jadwiga, and his brother, Tomasz.
Katarzyna Straszynska, a close friend of Piotr’s, took him to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan after he became unwell, but he later died in a car park at the hospital, she said.
She set up the page, on the website “GoFundMe”, in a bid to give Piotr “the send-off he deserves”.

“Nobody expected this situation,” Katarzyna said.
“Piotr was a very nice person; I spent a lot of time with him and his sister. He was a really good man, who only wanted to live a normal life.
“He loved Polish music and the sea. He always liked taking pictures of the beach and the sea, and wanted to be cremated and have his ashes spread out at sea.
“It’s really sad that we’ve lost him.”

Piotr and Katarzyna had been close friends for several years, since they were neighbours in Rhyl.
Katarzyna said she would often help Piotr, who struggled to speak English, attend various appointments, such as to the GP or the job centre.
A total of £333 has so far been raised, with a £2,000 target set.
She added: “I’m setting this (fundraiser page) up to try and ease the strain on his family at this painful time, to give him the day he deserves.”
