A FORMER teacher has been selected as Labour's candidate for the new constituency of Clwyd North.

Gill German, Prestatyn North councillor, is Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Education, Children and Families at Denbighshire County Council. She was elected as a county councillor in 2022.

Speaking about the selection, she said: "I am delighted to have been selected to be Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Clwyd North. I was proud to run a positive selection campaign alongside excellent candidates and am endlessly grateful to my team and our local members who have put their faith in me ahead of the next General Election.

"For now, my priority is to speak to people right across the constituency, to be a voice for residents and to campaign to get a Labour government elected that can deliver the change that people desperately need."

Gill German, who worked at Ysgol Penmorfa for 20 years, entered politics as she wanted to improve the lives of the children and families she worked with.

The new Clwyd North constituency will come into existence at the next General Election and stretches from Rhyl to Rhos on Sea along the coast and inland to Denbigh, including much of the current Vale of Clwyd and Clwyd West.
