THOUSANDS of people went along to the Prestatyn Classic Car Show today (August 28), as the event drew bigger crowds than ever.
The exhibition started in 2000, and despite being cancelled in both 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, survived thanks to the hard work of founder Tim Williams and his dedicated volunteer staff.
Huge crowds went along to today’s show, with more than 400 vehicles lining the High Street, nearby car park and area by the Christ Church, with both residents and car enthusiasts getting a glimpse of motoring from the past.
Among the many highlights was a Morris Minor collection courtesy of the North Wales branch of the Morris Minor Owners Club, a gold Pontiac Firebird, an impressive navy Ford Mustang, and a Chevrolet Corvette C3 Stingray.
Older Jaguars, Ferraris, and Rolls-Royce numbers were on display, as well as vintage motorbikes including Harley Davidsons and Honda and Bantam motorbikes.
A DMC DeLorean, famous for being a time machine in the Back to the Future films, made a popular return, wooing patrons with its unique design and opening mechanism.
Vintage 1920s and 1930s cars adorned the town, with a 1935 Lanchester Ten and a 1929 Vauxhall 20-60 Grosvenor among a slew of cars from the first half of the 20th century.
A Ford Popular from 1959 welcomed patrons upon entry to the High Street section, and indeed proved popular with its stunning interior and engine a hit with spectators.
Organiser Tim Williams told the Journal: “It’s been absolutely fabulous, we’ve had a cracking turn out, weather stayed reasonably good.
“Some of the quality of the cars – we’ve had a heck of a job trying to pick a winner out of the different classes that we’ve had.

“Bigger than last year, we had over 400 entered this year, which is a lot because everybody seems to arrive together.
“It’s all because of the group of people I’ve got helping me - I couldn’t pick one out (to thank), they’ve all been so helpful.
“We’ve missed one person helping out, but two of the lads stepped up and did it instead, so big thank you to Gavin and Robin – they’ve done a brilliant job.”
