A BAR in Rhyl is to shut its doors this weekend after its leaseholders made the “heart-breaking” decision to close their business after 11 years of trading.

The North, on Wellington Road, will mark its final day of business on Saturday (August 26).

It is not yet known what the future will hold for the premises, with the site having not yet been put up for sale.

A spokesperson for the pub, which is known for showing live sport and hosting live music, said that there are “quite a few” reasons behind its closure, but attributed it mainly to financial pressures.

The spokesperson said: “We will be closing at the weekend; on Saturday.

“I haven’t got as far as putting it up for sale yet, as I only lease the building.

“We live in a town where people compete for drinkers. The cost of living crisis hit energy prices hard, and people are struggling.

“Lockdown taught people to drink at home; so many do now, so why go the pub to watch sports?

“I’ve had a good 11 years there. It’s heart-breaking to leave, but you have to know when to throw in the towel.”
