A PUB near St Asaph is to welcome back customers from today (August 18) after its takeover was completed.

The Salusbury Arms, Tremeirchion is to return as the area’s “community pub” thanks to efforts from the Tremeirchion Community Pub Steering Group to resurrect it.

From February 18 to March 31, a total of £195,800 was raised via a Community Share Offer to help save the pub.

This followed the chancellor, Jeremy Hunt MP, saying in his Budget on March 15 that £175,000 in funding was to be provided through the UK Community Ownership Fund "to help ensure that the Salusbury Arms can be acquired and maintained for the benefit of the community".

For the plans to go ahead, the group had to match fund that amount, and ultimately even ended up surpassing it.

A statement from the Salusbury Arms read: “The ownership takeover by the community of Tremeirchion is due to take place on Friday, August 18.

“We ask at this time for your patience, as there are a number of items we have to finalise ahead of us being able to operate as smoothly as we want.

“Our aim was always never to close, but we have to reduce the dates due to availability. We will aim to update our followers as soon as possible as to the newly confirmed opening hours.

“We look forward to seeing you all soon.”

  • August 19 - 2-11pm.
  • August 23 - 4-11pm.
  • August 27 - 2-11pm.
  • August 28 - 12-11pm.

The pub’s tea room will not be open this coming weekend.

In March, group chair, Stuart Irvine, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that we have surpassed the amount needed.

“It was always a gamble trying to generate funds in this way, but it has paid off and we are all extremely excited here in Tremeirchion tonight and are very much looking forward to moving these plans forward.

“The future is looking very promising for the Salusbury Arms.”
