A PENSIONER from Kinmel Bay has been making twice-daily visits to Marine Lake in Rhyl to keep the site as tidy as possible.

Jim Colley, 85, has been litter-picking around the reservoir regularly for the last three to four years, and also returns shopping trolleys to supermarkets if they are left there.

Visiting the site first thing in the morning and again at about 4pm, Jim has a particular fondness for Marine Lake anyway as a dog-walking hotspot.

He said: “I like to get out anyway, and I just really enjoy doing it. You meet ppl, who all say that I’m doing a good job, so I feel like I’m doing something for the community.

“I’ve always walked my dog around Marine Lake, anyway. There are bins around, but people never use them! It’s been deteriorating for a long time.

“I just dragged out a crabber’s netting out of the lake this morning – it must have been about a mile long! It went straight in the bin; I don’t hang about!

“I love taking my dog around Marine Lake, and I’d like to see more done to it; adding sailing boats, maybe.

“There are a lot of litter pickers around at Rhyl’s seafront, who do a great job around there, too.”

Ruth Blunden, another Marine Lake regular who often spots Jim litter-picking, praised the good work he continues to do to keep the site tidy.

She added: “He’s out every morning, whatever the weather, picking up litter around Marine Lake.

“He’s a hero; quietly making the world a better place.”
