A CAFE which is popular with families and children will be under new ownership from next week.

Tracey Hargreaves-Jones and her husband Russ are stepping away from The Sugar Den in Abergele after seven years.

Ant and Arron Parry-Hughes will take over the business from August 15.

Tracey posted on Facebook: "Well it is goodbye from me and Russ and hello to Ant and Arron, new owners of The Sugar Den, from August 15.

"After nearly six years of building this business up from nothing but an empty shop, we are so proud to be leaving it with such a strong following and to have made so many memories from birthdays, grottos, events and family time together. We stuck to our vision, our model. We adapted during Covid and continued to grow. We even moved to bigger premises when others were closing. Then came 'The Den' next door. We’ve had so much fun, so many laughs, The Sugar Den was our ‘baby’ and we cannot thank our loyal customers for continuing to visit to help us grow. We’d also like to thank all the staff who have helped us gain our amazing reputation with their hard work, dedication and creativity."

Tracey and Russ revealed in July that they wanted to "do something different".

They added at the time: "We love this business and wanted to give someone else the chance to build on the foundations we’ve created.

"It has so much scope to be even bigger, we just haven’t got the time to give it what it needs."

The brightly coloured cafe opened on Market Street in 2017. The venue, which sells milkshakes, ice-cream, Belgian waffles and crepes, hosts children's parties and workshops such as sand art, building a bear, slime and bracelet making.

Speaking to the Journal and Pioneer about what she and her husband have achieved over the past six years, Tracey said: "We built The Sugar Den business from an empty shop and both Russ and I are immensely proud of what it has become.

"We have loved seeing so many families making special memories together from parties, events, outside catering to our fantastic sell out Christmas Grotto’s. We’ve got so many fond memories of watching the business grow into what it is today and we’d like to thank our families and friends for their continued support, our staff who have always been a huge part of what The Sugar Den is; fun and friendly, but most importantly we’d like to thank all the customers that have visited, some of who we now class as friends that have supported us from the very beginning, in our old shop, and then through Covid and have kept us going."

Talking about Ant and Arron taking over the reins, Tracey said: "Ant and Arron will continue our legacy. We know they will as they have such enthusiasm and love for the business already.

"Making memories at The Sugar Den will be their focus and nothing is changing but I’m sure they’ll add some new amazing things too.

"Russ and I are going to enjoy some weekends off after six years and watch it continue to grow from the side-lines.

"We couldn’t of wished for the business to be in better hands."
