THE former goalkeeper Neville Southall MBE was seen staying at a holiday park in Rhyl earlier this week.

Everton legend Southall, who was born and raised in Llandudno, enjoyed a stay at Marine Holiday Park, Cefndy Road, where he has visited several times previously.

Louise Roberts, caravan sales manager at Marine Holiday Park said the ex-keeper was “absolutely lovely” during his short break at the site.

She and colleagues in the park’s sales team, Hanna Williams and Rhiann Canning, posed for the above photo with Southall at the site on Monday morning (July 31).

“It wasn’t his first visit,” Louise said.

“He was absolutely lovely and friendly; he posed for photos with all of the holidaymakers and caravan owners.”

Southall, who briefly played for Rhyl in 2001, represented Everton 751 times and won 92 caps for Wales during an illustrious football career.

His honours include two First Divisions and FA Cups each, as well as a European Cup Winners’ Cup.

He is also a member of the trade union UNISON and serves as international officer for his branch, as well as being an advocate for Welsh independence.

Southall appeared on Nigel Farage's "Farage at Large" GB News show when it was broadcast in Llandudno last December.

When asked by Mr Farage if, through schemes such as the benefits system, whether the country does enough to support those on the lowest incomes, he said: “No. Nowhere near.”

He added: “The gap between the rich and the poor has got wider and wider. Why is that?

“It’s nearly an impossible job to be a Labour leader these days; they need to sort the party out in some terms.”

Mr Southall also advocated full tax-raising power in the Senedd, and said that William, the Prince of Wales, should live in the country himself.
