A PLANNING application has been lodged for a new restaurant and takeaway on High Street, Rhuddlan.

The site, at Clwyd House, would become a hot and cold food restaurant and a takeaway consisting of a pie and sandwich shop if the plans are approved by Denbighshire County Council.

Applicant Julia Smith, of Offa's Catering Company, submitted the proposals to the council’s planning committee on July 25.

Extracts from the planning application read: “In the first instance, we aim to have a ‘bring your own wine and beer venue’, although a full alcohol licence may be applied for later.

“Occasionally, special evenings will be held, such as a tapas night, steak night and burger night.

“The kitchen will have ovens, a preparation area, a washing up area, and fridges/freezers as needed to prepare and supply the hot food.

“The ‘shop area’ will have tables and chairs for approximately 20 covers, and a takeaway counter.

“(It is currently an) empty premises, although I have installed some ovens and cleaned/repainted throughout. I have also purchased tables and chairs in preparation for opening the new business.”

The application adds that, if successful, the new business would employ two full-time and three part-time employees.

It also plans to be open from 9am-10pm Monday to Saturday, and 12-7pm on Sundays.

Ms Smith also runs The Red Lion pub and restaurant in Northop.

The shop which was at the existing site has now been closed for approximately a year.

Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee has until September 18 to decide whether to approve the application.
