A PUB in Abergele is trying to give families a helping hand during the school summer holidays by giving children the chance to eat for free.

The George & Dragon, on Market Street, is offering a deal throughout the summer where, if an adult meal is bought, a child’s two-course meal can be added to their order at no extra cost.

This offer will be valid all day, Monday to Friday, for any child younger than 12 (the child’s “meal deal” must be ordered at the same time as the adult main course).

In a statement, the pub said: “We appreciate times are tough enough these days without having to find extra funds to feed the kids while they are off school.

“We are offering this deal throughout the summer holidays: if you buy one adult meal, you can add one kid’s two-course meal free – what’s not to like about this offer?”

The pub’s two-course children’s menu consists of:

  • Main course (beef burger / Chicago Town cheese pizza / six battered chicken chunks / four fish fingers / macaroni cheese / vegan buttermilk-style burger).
  • A side order (chips / garlic ciabatta / mashed potato / rice).
  • Veg (baked beans / buttered corn ribs / peas).
  • Dessert (Smarties pop-up ice cream / Fab ice lolly / Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles ice lolly).

In June, The George & Dragon returned with a new landlady in charge following its initial closure earlier this year.

It has been taken on by Michelle Partington after Lee Murphy, who had owned the pub for nearly 11 years, decided not to renew its contract with Star Pubs & Bars.

The George & Dragon was named the best community pub in the Conwy district in 2019, and won the gold prize for community pub at the Best Bar None awards in 2017.
