A BOY from Prestatyn showed off his entrepreneurial skills during the town’s carnival on Saturday (July 22) when he sold drinks from the boot of his dad’s car.

Thomas Davenport-Jones, 12, set up shop outside his family’s home with a sign advertising cans for £1 and water bottles for 50p, having picked up his stock from Farmfoods.

His mum, Jane, said he made an impressive profit from his efforts, which were, by and large, all his own work.

She said: “He decided that he’d do this on the day of the carnival, with there being loads of people passing.

“He said he might do it again now, on a hot weekend. He made about £85 from it, and still has some stuff left to sell.

“There was a Farmfoods leaflet, saying that they (cans and bottles) were on offer, so he made me take him – I got roped into it, as well! Other than that, it’s been all his own work.

“He’s always trying to think of little ways to make money. A few years ago, we grew pumpkins and sold them, giving the money we raised to a foodbank.

“The response on Saturday was really good. A lot of people who came by said what a good idea it was, and so did loads of people online. It went really well.”

Thomas was certainly not short of customers, as thousands of people attended the carnival on Saturday.

This year’s event featured a midday parade involving bands, dancing troupes, princes and princesses and rose queens from Prestatyn and nearby, and other entertainers.

Fire dancers, drag queens, and a Ukrainian community group also took part.
