FOLLOWING on from a highly successful event last year, children from across Denbighshire will once again have the chance to take part in a free day of play held at Christchurch Playing Fields in Rhyl.

This year, Rhyl’s Oak Tree Centre will host Denbighshire’s National Play Day event on the August 2, running from 11am-3pm.

Organised by Denbighshire County Council’s Play Ranger service to help children enjoy their summer holiday, the free event will feature a host of activities including a water slip and slide, den building, messy play, Jurassic Live, birdbox making, arts and crafts, circus skills and much more.

This will be the seventh time that this hugely popular event will be held, which resumed last year following the COVID-19 pandemic, and will once again be free.

Dawn Anderson, childcare and play development manager, said: “Last year we had over 2,500 people attend the event, and the feedback we got from the families that attended was outstanding.

“We can’t wait to welcome families back once again to this event and we would like encourage parents from across Denbighshire to bring their children to this free event and enjoy everything that is on offer.”

Cllr Gill German, deputy leader and lead member for education, children and families, added: “Play is a fundamental part of children's lives and National Play Day is a great chance to offer children a great day out.

“With all of the cost-of-living issues that families are dealing with at the moment, I am glad that we can once again offer this event at no charge, providing families with a fun and free event.”
