A VEGAN bistro and café in Rhuddlan has been named the best of its kind in Wales, winning two awards at a national food awards.
Green Island Bistro, a popular destination on the town’s High Street, won Café / Bistro of the Year Overall Winner at the Food Awards Wales in Cardiff.
The restaurant, which opened during the COVID-19 pandemic, also defended its title of best café/bistro in North Wales, scooping the prize for the second consecutive year.
In a post on social media, owner Sara Turner said: “It’s official - we’ve been awarded Best Bistro/Cafe in Wales.

"Not just North Wales, the whole of Wales - totally shocked and overwhelmed to win this.
"Thank you so much to all our amazing customers that voted and to my amazing family and staff for making this possible - a vegan cafe winning best cafe/bistro."
Green Island Bistro was also nominated for vegetarian restaurant of the year at the last Welsh Restaurant Awards.
As well as running the bistro, Sara’s business also operates as a vegan/plant-based food delivery service covering Abergele, Kinmel Bay, Rhyl, Prestatyn, St Asaph and Rhuddlan.
