A FISH and chip shop based in Rhyl has shut its doors following roughly three decades of trading.
“The Chippy”, on Grange Road, is believed to have closed on Friday, April 28.
Eunice Grayson and Kathy Batterbee, who both worked at The Chippy for 30 years, both said its closure came as a “shock” to them.
They have both since moved on to Les & Rita’s Fish Bar, on Wellington Road.
“We don’t know ourselves (why The Chippy closed),” said Eunice, who met Kathy through the fish and chip shop.
“It was a shock, but with the way things are, with the (rising) prices of everything, it’s just one of those things that some businesses fold, which is a shame.
“Potatoes, blocks of fat, gas and electricity are all sky-high now.”
Prior to closing for good, The Chippy had reduced its opening hours earlier this year after being left with “no option” because of “spiralling costs”.

Kathy added: “It was just a bit of a shock more than anything, to be honest.
“I thought I’d be there until I drew my pension!”
When contacted by the Journal, “Grange Funerals”, which was situated next door to The Chippy, also confirmed that the fish and chip shop has now closed.
It is also labelled as “permanently closed” by Google.
