A WOMAN from Towyn was one of a group of four who raised thousands for charity by taking on one of Zip World’s most daunting challenges.

Diane Foulkes, and her friends Debbie, Lynne and Sharon tried out “Velocity 2”, the world’s fastest zip line, at its Penrhyn Quarry site on Tuesday.

In doing so, they have raised more than £2,000 for Make a Wish, a charity which “grants wishes” to children suffering with a critical illness.

The event was made all the more poignant by the fact that one member of the group, Lynne, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Diane said: “It was scary and daunting to start with, because of how high up you are, but it was pretty good fun!

“We’ve raised £2,000, not including gift aid, for Make a Wish. Lynne was alright with it all – she doesn’t care, she just says it how it is!

“We all enjoyed it - the highlight was just the four of us being together, and doing something good.

“My daughter did a skydive seven years ago and raised over £5,000 for Make a Wish, and they helped one of our friend’s sons, who is OK now but had leukaemia when he was younger, and his family.”

Velocity 2 sends thrill-seekers darting across a 1.5km zip line at speeds higher than 100mph, while taking in stunning views of Snowdonia.
