AN INDIAN takeaway in Abergele has retained an elite food hygiene award after receiving its fifth straight top score.

Red Chilli, located on Bridge Street, was awarded the maximum score of five after inspection on May 22, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

This is the fifth straight five-out-of-five score for the business, and puts them in esteemed company, with the establishment keeping the elite award it received in December 2016.

The award is given to businesses that have achieved three consecutive five star food hygiene ratings, and the takeaway believes the latest rating puts them in the “smaller minority” of excelling places.

A Red Chilli spokesperson said: “The team at Red Chilli are proud to receive yet another five-star food hygiene rating for the fifth consecutive time since July 2013.

“This is evidence of the team’s hard work and efforts in maintaining our strict food safety policy to ensure we comply with food hygiene law at all times.

“We understand we are unable to please everyone and there is always room for improvements, however with the impressive comments and reviews of our quality and service of this establishment, we are confident to say customers enjoy our food and appreciate the service we provide.”

The family-run business enjoys a stellar reputation, with a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 based on 129 reviews, with the most recent one in January saying it was “really tasty, good quality food” and that they would visit again.
