A TOTAL of eight people were taken to hospital following a fire at a care home in Rhyl.

This was at Canterbury House, Dyserth Road, on Saturday afternoon (May 20).

Emergency services were called to the fire, which involved a washing machine, shortly after 3pm.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at about 3.10pm to reports of a fire at a care home on Dyserth Road, Rhyl.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, and eight patients were conveyed to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.”

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a fire in the laundry room of a residential home on Dyserth Road, Rhyl at 3.07pm on May 20.

"One crew from Rhyl and one crew from Abergele attended.

"Occupants were evacuated from the property.

"The fire involved a washing machine, and the cause is thought to be electrical."

A North Wales Police spokesperson added: "We were aware of the incident and one officer did attend; however, police were not required.

"The Welsh Ambulance Service had primacy."

A Wales Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “I can confirm that the Wales Air Ambulance attended an incident in the Rhyl area on Saturday, May 20.

"A critical care team arrived at the scene by helicopter at 5.55pm and our involvement concluded at 6.47pm.”
