A TOTAL of three footballers appeared in court today (March 29) after a fight broke out at the end of a match between CPD Y Rhyl 1879 and CPD Bangor 1876.
Rhyl players Alex Jones, 28, of Rhyl, and Leon Atkins, 21, of Heswall, were both charged with affray on February 21, as was Bangor’s Shaun Lock, 31, of Bangor.
Jones was also charged with an additional offence of assaulting Bangor player Tom Clarke by beating him during the match, on October 22, 2022.

They all appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court today, but the matter was adjourned until Wednesday, May 3 at 2pm before any pleas were entered.
It will be referred to a district judge at the court after one of the magistrates said that the matter is “over and above what we can probably sort out”.
Indeed, Jones’ representative said that this “unusual case” should “not be before a criminal court”.
The court heard that the Football Association of Wales (FAW) had imposed a nine-match ban and a fine on Jones.
Atkins, meanwhile, had received a five-game ban and a fine from the FAW, it was heard.
Another player also received a police caution following the incident, at Rhyl’s Belle Vue ground.
The two sides are due to meet in the reverse fixture in the Ardal North West League at the Nantporth stadium in Bangor on Saturday, April 8 (kick-off 12.30pm).
In total, seven red cards were shown in October’s game, which Bangor won 2-1.
