WE ASKED Journal readers which roads near them they thought should be limited to 20mph, after Welsh Government passed legislation aimed at reducing serious injuries.
30mph roads in Denbighshire will be reduced to 20mph from September 17, apart from those exempt following a special application.
But councils across Wales are announcing exempt roads at different times, with some councils carrying out public consultations.
Mark Owen feels that “All roads should be 20mph”, as they are “not fit to go any faster on.”

Mark Franklin responded to our query saying: “Absolutely no, this is just madness. Will increase pollution. For me personally will be horrendous as my company car is tracked for speed.”
Carl Baxter said: “100 per cent survival rate, for those that are not numpties, and stay on the pavement. Cyclists don't count! And I am one. That said, the streets that need to be 20mph limit, are those that rarely see up to 20mph anyways.”
Graham Price said the legislation was a case of ‘saving lives’, and added: “Studies carried out elsewhere prove that injuries to pedestrians are less severe and there are fewer deaths when certain roads are 20mph limited, fact. So if you don’t want to save lives keep moaning about it.”
Carl Bishop feels that the Council should “make all roads going through housing estates 20mph.”
Ian Murray said the changes would increase Co2 emissions, and was a way of “fleecing” people out of more money.
He said: “If you’re happy with adding extra fuel emissions from driving slower as the modern engine isn’t designed for it, to this so called “Climate (conspiracy) emergency” then crack on and jump on the band wagon. It’s just another way of fleecing more money yet the sheep will follow as usual instead of actually questioning the reason or learning to say no again.”
Colin Jones said the changes should be brought in for “village roads used as a racetrack by inconsiderate road users”, while Nigel Hobdey thinks the new limits should be introduced “near schools.”
Robert Franklin disagreed with implementing any changes, adding that “the ones that are no one adheres to.”
James Langfield said it would make the roads less safe, as cyclists would be overtaking traffic. He said: “Going to be more dangerous with all the cyclists overtaking the traffic going 20mph.”
Darrell L Hills said that all eligible roads should be reduced to 20mph, due to the increase in electric car use.
He said: “Yes all of them, especially Grange road. You just can't hear the electric cars coming.”
David Kearsley said Tynewydd Road should become 20mph, while Robert Povey said Salisbury Drive should also because “it’s a ridiculous shortcut to miss the speed ramps.”
Exemptions will be granted only if ‘significant’ numbers of pedestrians and cyclists aren’t present.
The new legislation says councils can apply for roads to be exempt if there aren’t ‘significant’ numbers of pedestrians and cyclists travelling along or across the road.
