A COMMUNITY bakery in Rhyl celebrated the first anniversary of its grand opening with a special open day earlier this week.

“Use Your Loaf” bakery, based at 33 Abbey Street, reached one year of business on March 7.

The bakery invited people to sample a range of its different bakes, learn about its courses, taster sessions and theme days, and find out more about pre-ordering and deliveries of its products.

This took place on March 7 from 10am – 2pm.

Alex Bowen, project manager, said: “It went really well; we saw a lot of new faces and some familiar ones.

“We managed to get quite a few names for the courses, and even some orders and sales, as well, which was great to see.

“We had about 100 people visit us, and they went through trays of focaccia, cinnamon buns, pizza and chocolate bread tasters!”

Initially the idea of the project leader of the Foryd Community Centre, Fiona Davies, the bakery was planned for several years before opening, and operates from Monday to Friday.

It offers different types of courses on each day between Tuesday and Thursday, as well as a “community day” each Friday.

The bakery also gives people the chance to learn how to make artisan, home-made loaves, as well as earning qualifications in food safety, allergen awareness and more.

It runs flexible 12-day courses, enabling people to come in whenever suits them, and is open to anyone older than 16.
