A RESIDENT at a care home in Abergele enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with family and friends last weekend to celebrate his 100th birthday.

Fred Griffiths, who has lived at Church Manor Care Home for just more than one year, turned 100 in early March, and had a party to mark the milestone on Sunday (March 5).

A former servicemen, Fred was also delighted to receive a telegram from King Charles III, congratulating him on reaching 100.

Joe Stevens, one of the home’s assistant care managers, was on shift during Fred’s birthday party.

He said: “Myself and all of the team on shift had the pleasure of making a very special day for one of our lovely gentlemen!

“We laid out our dining room with personal, home-made banners, which were specially decorated by our residents.

“We decorated the room with balloons, and we all signed a card to put our own little touch on his special day.

“Fred has had a fun-filled afternoon with family and close friends, with biscuits, tea and coffee put out for all.

“We had the pleasure of witnessing Fred opening his telegram from King Charles lll and The Queen Consort, Camilla, which Fred was so proud of.

“To top the day off, our very own chef, Chris, made a very special cake to resemble his most favourite thing - a Dairy Milk chocolate bar!”

Martin Wiles, owner of Church Manor Care Home, added his congratulations to Fred, and his gratitude to the team which made his birthday celebrations possible.

He said: “Having an incredible team that are able to pull off such amazing celebrations such as Fred’s 100th birthday makes me incredibly proud.

“The whole team have had a lot of challenges and adjustments over the last few months, with opening and filling the new bedrooms in the care home.

“They still all show their incredible commitment by continuing to make the lives of our residents amazing every single day!”
