A BLINDS and homeware shop in Abergele has generously helped out other businesses and organisations in the town through numerous charitable gestures.
“Just Blinds” and “Pen Y Bont Interiors”, who occupy the same premises on Bridge Street and are run by couple Paul and Tanya Jones, have helped the likes of Abergele Crown Green Bowling Club, Abergele Youth Shed, the café at Abergele Hospital, and The Hummingbird Project.
The couple have:
• Introduced ready-made and cheaper-budget curtains, to help those more severely affected by the cost of living crisis.
• Agreed to fit new curtains at Abergele Youth Shed for a hugely discounted price, as well as donating to the group any old blinds or fabrics for its members to make things out of.
• Fitted new blinds at Abergele Hospital’s café, again for a greatly discounted price.
• Arranged 1,000 tickets for a raffle at the bowling club in July, to which they have donated a £500 lamp, as well as making a separate £150 donation to the club.
• Donated money and Easter eggs to The Hummingbird Project, a group set up to support those less fortunate and/or short of food in North Wales.

The Hummingbird Project will also be relocating to the same premises as “Just Blinds” and “Pen Y Bont Interiors” on Tanya’s recommendation.
Tanya said: “We’re seeing that people are finding things quite at the moment, so we’ve introduced ready-made and cheaper-budget curtains.
“We like to help, so we decided to join Pensarn’s litter picking group, which we do on most Sundays – Just Blinds' only day off. That’s where I met Pam (Lake) from The Hummingbird Project.
“She was saying what a marvellous thing it is, and I thought, rather than expanding my business, this (empty) space in the same building as us would be perfect for her.
“They’re going to be having a launch day, and are moving in here from March 1.
“We’ve donated 48 Easter eggs ourselves, to go to children less fortunate than most. There’s a place to drop them off at our store; just one small egg can give one big smile.
“Lots of people out there need help, and The Hummingbird Project needs to come to the forefront of people’s minds.
“Every child should have a warm bed, a blanket when they’re cold, a teddy bear to hug, a hot water bottle, an egg at Easter.”

Pam Lake, from The Hummingbird Project, added: “Tanya has been a great support. I’m really happy that she’s helped us.
“She told me there was a unit available at their premises, which was amazing; I wouldn’t have found it without her.
“We could do with all of the support we can get. We’ve been busy for the last 18 months, doing stuff from our house, but there are so many people in need; the demand for the stuff we do is growing.
“She and Paul have supported us as much as they possibly can. I’d like to say thank you to them for all of their help in finding us a new premises. They’ve been amazing.”
Abergele Youth Shed added: “Just Blinds have been incredible. They worked with what our requirements were, including colours and blackout needed in one room.
“Nothing was a problem for them and they were very quick with responses, too.
“It is great to work with a local company who are also willing to give back to local charities.”
Gary Shaw, secretary at Abergele Crown Green Bowling Club, added: "We are very grateful to Tanya at Just Blinds for her generous donation and the forthcoming raffle she is organising.
"As the bowling club is self-funded by its members, we are always looking for sponsorship from local tradespeople for their support, and without this, the club would struggle to survive.
"Her kind donation is greatly appreciated by those at the club."
Previously, Tanya and Paul’s businesses made a donation of £1,202 to a football club, as well as fitting new blinds at the foodbank for free, and offering free advice for interior design.
Tanya also offers the fitting of free blinds to a pensioner once a month.
