A PRIMARY school in Rhyl has set up creative new signs showing pupils holding “no parking” signals in an attempt to curb the traffic issues at the site.

Ysgol Bryn Heddyd, on Spruce Avenue, has taken this action after traffic at drop-off and pick-up times became a source of particular concern.

It has introduced these new “cones”, in the form of drawn images of the school’s pupils, to try to deter motorists from parking in inappropriate areas.

Tim Redgrave, interim executive headteacher at Ysgol Bryn Heddyd since October, said he hopes it will enable drivers to visualise the issues that parking on zig-zag lines outside the school can cause.

He said: “The school has increased greatly in size over the years and as a result, there is quite a lot of traffic in the mornings and afternoons.

“The vast majority of parents are respectful of our residents and of the zig-zag lines in front of the school.

“However, on occasions, a few parents can park inappropriately over driveways, double park or park on the zig-zag lines.

“This could lead to confrontations, trouble for access vehicles, and fines.”

Mr Redgrave added the school is fully sympathetic to the situation and will liaise with its police community support officer in order to raise further awareness.

He encouraged residents to pass on the details of anyone who blocks them in to the police to avoid any unpleasant situations.

Mr Redgrave added: “Nearly all parents are respectful of the rules of the road every day, but we will continue to try to make things better.”
