A MAN who receives a prescription from a pharmacy in Rhyl said he is considering going without his medication due to the impending introduction of delivery charges.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said he was informed by Wellington Road Pharmacy that, from March 1, he will have to pay either £4 per delivery, or an annual fee of £40.

He added that his medical conditions mean he is unable to pick up his prescription from the pharmacy himself.

The pharmacy is run by Camella Healthcare Limited, which has sites in Rhyl on both Wellington Road and Vale Road.

The resident said: “I had a leaflet when my medication was delivered (informing him of the delivery charges).

“I’m not happy. I'm housebound, as I suffer from agoraphobia and other issues, and although I don't get a lot of medication, it's the principle of having to pay for delivery.

“At £4 a pop, I would say I’m going to struggle a lot with whether to pay and have my medication, or go without.

“They should scrap the idea altogether.”

Lee Browne, managing director of Camella Healthcare Limited, said the decision essentially became a necessary evil.

This follows an increase in the likes of fuel and vehicle costs and wages in the last 12 months.

He said: “The cost of £40 a year for unlimited medication deliveries to each patient, or £4 for one-off deliveries, are introduced from March 1 this year.

“I would have preferred to continue a free service, but rising costs have regrettably led us to this.”
