A FORMER county councillor in Denbighshire regained the seat he lost last year in a by-election yesterday (February 9).
Cllr Brian Jones, who previously served as a Rhyl South East ward councillor and Denbighshire County Council’s cabinet lead member for waste, transport and the environment, won the Rhyl Tŷ Newydd by-election by 11 votes.

He won 40.1 per cent (337) of the 841 votes cast, edging out Labour candidate Jacquie McAlpine (326 votes, 38.8 per cent)
The by-election was being held following the death of Cllr Brian Blakeley in October, who had previously held one of the ward’s two seats.
Yesterday’s full by-election results are as follows:
• Brian Jones (Conservative) - 337
• Jacquie McAlpine (Labour) - 326
• John Hughes-Jones (Plaid Cymru) - 101
• Simon Rowlands (Independent) - 72
• Keith Kirwan (Liberal Democrats) – 5
Cllr Cheryl Lynne Williams is the ward’s other representative.
