DENBIGHSHIRE Leisure Ltd (DLL) has clarified why the lights at its 1891 bar and restaurant have been left on overnight for the last few months.
The company, which is responsible for the site, said it is due to a fault with the control panel controlling the lights which has yet to be resolved.
A resident of Rhyl had told the Journal that he first noticed the lights at the premises, next to the Pavilion Theatre on East Parade, remaining on overnight in October while walking his dog.
A spokesperson for DLL said: “The control panel that controls the restaurant lights broke late last year. It’s a specialist component that requires a specialist to fit.
“Thankfully, the bulbs are low-energy LEDs, so energy consumption is low.
“We are awaiting installation. If we turn them off before it is installed, we won’t be able to get them back on.”

The resident, who asked not to be named, took the above picture from the Travelodge hotel car park at roughly 1.30am on November 29, 2021.
He contacted the Journal after becoming concerned at the potential waste of electricity.
The resident said: “I first detected the lights being on in October. I walk my dog down there, and because she doesn’t like other dogs, I usually walk her at 1-2am.
“I couldn’t believe what was going on in there, with all of the lights on. Last night, I was there at 3-3.30am, and they were all on. Nobody turns anything off.
“There’s nobody inside, and no cars in the car park.
“Every time I go down there now, which is about every other night, I can see them all on. It’s not as if there are just a few lights on, there are dozens.
“I’m just concerned about the cost of all this electricity that they consume. As we all know, the prices have gone through the roof, but that doesn’t seem to apply to them.
“It’s unbelievable, in this day and age. I go around (my house) turning every light off. I’ve just put LED panels in my shop, and disconnected all of my fluorescent tubes, just to get down to a 36W panel.”
The restaurant received a food hygiene rating of five (“very good”) following an inspection on December 6, 2022.
