STARBUCKS have submitted plans to open a drive-thru coffee shop in the car park of the Asda in Kinmel Bay.

The coffee chain is expanding into Asda sites across the UK and has proposed plans for a development in the Asda car park in Kinmel Bay.

The application has been put in by EG Group Limited, owned by the Issa brothers, who purchased Asda supermarkets in 2020.

The planned store aims to create up to 20 new jobs, and follows the coffee chain’s construction of a drive-thru in Wrexham, with plans for an Asda-based store in Queensferry.

Around 15 Starbucks cafes have now been built or planned at Asda sites in the UK.

A planning statement for the Kinmel Bay venture said: "The unit is intended to provide a complementary facility to the store, to improve the range of facilities available in the area and help optimise the use of this brownfield location.

“The proposal will result in significant economic benefits in the form of 20 new jobs - suitable for a range of skillsets and working hours.

"The Asda store benefits from an excess in car parking space. the development of an element of the car park will have no impact on the day to day operation of the supermarket."

Planners at Conwy County Borough Council will now assess the application.
