PLANNING permission has been granted for an application to build a new Burger King restaurant near Bodelwyddan.

To be based at the westbound A55 Kinmel services, the plans were approved by Denbighshire County Council on November 30.

Owners EG Group want to add a “drive-thru” Burger King, as well as amend a Greggs bakery unit that was previously approved at planning.

The proposal, which was initially due to receive a council decision by October 16 before an extension was granted, states it will create 20 jobs.

The following works have been proposed in the application:

• The development of a “drive-thru” unit to be occupied by Burger King.

• Additional car parking.

• Additional electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities.

• Rationalisation of the as-built Greggs unit.

The application states: “The proposed development will result in the delivery of a facility for which there is an identified need.

“It will also rationalise the planning position regarding the Greggs unit, as approved in 2018, and provide additional parking capacity including dedicated spaces for caravans.

“Burger King has agreed to operate the drive-thru restaurant upon receipt of a satisfactory planning permission.

"The drive-thru unit will be 183 sq m in area. The development will comprise a significant enhancement to the offer, choice and value for users of the services.

"Regarding layout, the Burger King drive-thru unit will be located within the central car park, opposite the Greggs unit.”

Attempts have been made to contact Burger King for further comment.
