Rhyl remembers the fallen at Armistice Day service
Richard Kendrick, a RBL fundraiser based in Rhyl, who organised the town’s Armistice Day service at its Remembrance Gardens, hailed residents’ generosity.
Despite it marking a fall from the £42,000 raised in Rhyl last year, Richard said, particularly given the ongoing cost of living crisis, the final total of £31,799.05 was still a fantastic amount.
He also praised the schools in Rhyl who brought pupils along to the Armistice Day service.
Richard said: “Thank you to everyone who volunteered on the Poppy Appeal here in Rhyl - a huge £31,799.05 was raised to support our Armed Forces community.
“Even in these bad times, we’ve done really well. With what’s happening (with the cost of living crisis), it’s a fantastic amount. Such a high amount goes back into helping everybody.
“Armistice Day went really well with all of the schoolchildren attending, and it was fantastic that, on the Tuesday afterwards, Ysgol Llywelyn turned up with 100 children.
“The schools are amazing; it was so lovely to see it packed.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about those lads, and a lot of those have had help (from the RBL). I get about a dozen messages a week from the Armed Forces community asking for help.
“Rhyl has a better heart when it comes to charity, by a mile. We are the most giving town going. It’s been lovely to be a Poppy Appeal collector, and see all of the money come in.”
