A MAN from Rhyl is celebrating after winning a national photography award last week.
Neil Johansson, 39, was crowned “best street photographer” (photography that records everyday life in a public place) at the British Photography Awards.
The awards were held at The Dorchester hotel in London on Friday, November 18.
Attending the ceremony with a couple of his fellow photographers who were also shortlisted for prizes – one in the food category and another also up for the street award - Neil was as delighted as he was surprised to win.

He said: “For the British Photo Awards I entered 10 black and white photos and two were selected. Although I shoot in colour, I prefer black and white.
“I felt completely ecstatic to win; it wasn't something I expected - the other finalists were all very good.”
A member of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS); Neil has also had his work exhibited in the USA, Italy, France.
Neil has been a photographer in his spare time for several years now, and this was not the first award he’s won since taking it up.
He was named street photographer of the year at the Paris International Street Photo Awards 2021, and was shortlisted, and ended up being commended, in the RPS documentary photographer of the year in 2021.
