A NEW gift voucher scheme which encourages people to 'keep it local' when shopping has been launched in Rhyl.

The Your Rhyl Gift Voucher, which is unique to Rhyl, aims to support the economy and boost business over the festive period.

The vouchers can be used in all participating businesses and are not limited to any one store – giving shoppers greater choice when shopping throughout the town.

Abigail Pilling, Rhyl BID Manager, said: “Rhyl has a fabulous mix of quality independent retailers, as well as high street names, together with great cafes, bars and restaurants and not forgetting the leisure and cultural venues where the card is also accepted. There are too many to mention here but the vouchers can be redeemed for everyday goods such as flowers to soft furnishings, computer games to gifts – there really is something for everyone.

"We have kept the initial launch simple – low denominations for spread of spend and we’ve had a great response from local shops.

"Once the voucher is redeemed, we pay the shop back in full. It is a great way to lock in spend to the local economy.”

Mark Chesterton, owner of Flaunt It Vintage, was the first to sign up to the Your Rhyl Gift Voucher Scheme.

He said: “Shopping local and supporting local businesses and jobs has never been more important. With a clear and simple message to ‘buy local’, ensuring the town survives. By choosing these vouchers everyone is making a difference that benefits the community.”
