A SCARECROW made out of more than 100 crisp packets and a dog poo bag dispenser was crowned the winner of Halloween competition held by Prestatyn Town Council.

The design was created by Alyssa Dean, 12, from Prestatyn, who has already made more than 250 care packages for homeless people, which include survival blankets made out of crisp packets.

The scarecrow, which was made with the help of Alyssa’s friend, Sarah and which dons a “Miss Crisptatyn” sash, won first prize and the mayor’s favourite in the competition.

As a result, Alyssa won herself two gift cards worth £55 in total.

Alyssa’s mother, Darlene Fallorina, said: “There were more than 100, I think. She used all-black crisp packets because they’re thicker, and not as easy to stick together for the blankets.

“It took her about two-and-a-half hours. I think it’s cool – she just collected her prizes from the council today, as well. It’s still in our front garden!”

As for the crisp packet blanket project, Darlene added: “It’s still going. We just sent some to Mid-Wales, to South Wales, and Wrexham want more before Christmas.

“At the moment, including deliveries, she’s done about 265 now, and she’s still going to make more. We still have some at home, to be delivered.”
