THIS is the latest creation by Rhyl 'yarn bomber' Rachel Williamson which has gone on display ahead of Remembrance Day.

The incredible woollen Tommy topper, complete with helmet, has be fitted on to the post box opposite the Sun Verge on Rhyl's seafront.

Rachel was helped by her twin sister Ruth. It took the duo five days to make.

"I've made toppers for Remembrance Day for the last couple of years as I think it's important to remember those that have given their lives for us," Rachel said.

"I had seen this design on Facebook and decided to have a go. It was definitely more challenging than any of the others I have done because of making the hat fit and the head stand up etc. I couldn't have done it without the help of Ruth [the topper engineer] as she had to glue a Frisbee to the hat and make a stand for the head to go on.

"I'm always a bit nervous when I put them out incase they don't fit, or if they don't stand up, so I was really pleased with this one once it was in place.

"We wanted it as close to the garden of remembrance as possible.

The design and pattern was by the Syston Knitting Banksy and Tina Thomas.

Rachel and Ruth began making elaborate knitted and crocheted scenes during the first Coronavirus lockdown.

The idea came after Rachel, a retired police officer, spotted a glum-looking queue of people outside her chemist and set about thinking how to cheer them up. She hit upon making the post box toppers, with the first appearing on a box on Lynton Walk.

Rachel added: "With Ruth's help, I have made over 150 [creations] since the start of lockdown. Ruth doesn't knit or crochet but she is really good at the other bits.

"I'm hoping to get a few out for Christmas but haven't started yet - so fingers crossed."

Remembrance Sunday falls on November 13.
