A 'FOOTBALL pub' has reopened following a significant £149,000 investment.

The Lorne in Rhyl has been given a fresh new look. It now boasts nine large TVs to watch the latest sporting action on, with both BT and Sky Sports playing daily.

There is also a new pool table and darts board.

The historic seaside venue, on Market Street, has a long-standing connection with sport dating back to 1893 when the pub hosted a momentous meeting between Rhyl Football Club and the other Welsh coast clubs, including Bangor, Flint, and Holywell.

Rhyl Journal:

Discussions led to the formation of the first ever North Wales Coast Football League.

David Lloyd, operator at The Lorne, said “The entertainment on offer for our guests allows for our great local community to regularly enjoy afternoons and evenings here at the pub.

"The people of Rhyl make this pub what it is, and we’re really enjoying having them back, as we look forward to the festive season.”

Entertainment is high on the agenda at the pub; Bingo is hosted on Monday nights, free pool on Tuesdays and there is music between Thursday and Sunday nights. Customers can enjoy a mix of karaoke and live DJ sets.

Improvements have been made to the dog-friendly pub in order to create a "warm and welcoming feel". The interior has seen a complete refresh and the pub’s garden includes new seating and a fresh colour scheme.

Mr Lloyd added “It’s a great feeling to be open once again, with our new look and entertainment on offer. Feedback from our regular guests has been really positive since we reopened, and it’s been so good to see so many familiar faces from throughout the community, enjoying themselves once again at The Lorne.”

The Lorne in Rhyl is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company.
