WORK is well underway on the construction of Prestatyn’s new Home Bargains store, with its opening date now just six weeks away.

The store, to be based on Gas Works Lane, remains on course to open on the initial date pencilled in of Saturday, December 3.

Home Bargains said in a statement today (October 20): “We are delighted to confirm that our new Prestatyn store is on schedule to open on December 3.”

Signage for Home Bargains has been put in place at the site, with the chain also currently based in Prestatyn on the town’s High Street.

'I'm devastated': Prestatyn traders on closure of 'neglected' market

Home Bargains set to be built on Prestatyn market site and create 70 jobs

Next to the new Home Bargains, a garden centre, “GardenWorld” is also in the process of being constructed.

There will also be a new in-store bakery, with the whole development set to create more than 70 jobs.

Plans were submitted in January 2020 for the land on Gas Works Lane for a large retail unit.

The site is less than a five-minute walk from both the town’s bus and train stations.

It is being built on the former site of the Prestatyn market, which closed in November 2021 after nearly 50 years of trading after it was sold by Northern Markets.

Last November, traders at the market told the Journal they were “annoyed” and “devastated” by its closure to make way for the new Home Bargains store.
