TINY Tots nursery in Prestatyn marked 50 successful years of providing care to children and babies of all ages last week.

Owner and manager, Prestatyn and Meliden mayor Tina Jones, opened Tiny Tots on October 9, 1972 at the age of 17, and has watched the nursery go from strength to strength.

Tina’s vision for the nursery, based on Meliden Road, has always been to “create a happy, healthy environment for all children”.

The nursery used to operate on one level but after a major expansion in 1995, it now has an additional out-of-school, self-contained building, and a before-and-after school in Trelawnyd VA School.

Back in 1972, the nursery had capacity for 17 children, but across all of its sites, Tiny Tots can offer places to up to 110.

A vast majority of its staff have been employed by Tiny Tots for many years, ensuring that all children benefit while developing their social and learning skills through the medium of play.

Tiny Tots is also registered to provide Flying Start sessions, 30 free hours’ childcare scheme, and Early Years education funding.

The nursery is also an active member of the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), with Tina having been a trustee for 22 years.

The nursery sits within five acres of extensive grounds, with an outdoor classroom fit for all weather conditions, a yurt and a treehouse all found outside.

Its “BiG BENs Adventure Club” also runs after school, predominantly outdoors. Aimed at children aged older then eight, its Forest school-trained staff lead the sessions.

Tina was also appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to childcare and early learning in Denbighshire, receiving her medal from Prince William at Buckingham Palace in March 2016.

As the nursery celebrates a half-century of business, she thank all of the parents, past and present, who have supported Tiny Tots, and her team of nursery nurses.

She said: “If I knew that it would still be open 50 years later, I would have kept a record of the number of children attended over the years!”
