WE ASKED Journal readers what the best job they’ve ever had is, and these were some of their answers.

Councillor Kay Louise Redhead, of Conwy County Borough Council (Kinmel Bay ward) and Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council, said: “My current job! I’m a support worker for adults with learning disabilities and it is the least jobbiest job I have ever had! I hand on heart don’t wake up in a morning and think ‘I really don’t want to go to work today!’”

Vanessa Rex Hinsley said: “At Avon Valley railway. Working on the beautiful old stream trains.”

Malcolm Reah said his second job was the best, adding: “I worked on the railways from 1978 to 1999, the job was hard, but the banter with my workmates was top class.”

Bridget Warburton said her job at Stretford fire station “in the kitchen, serving the firemen” was the best role she ever had.

David McCormack said his favourite was his present role “as a tour manager with Albion Journeys. Visits to some fantastic heritage sites, great hotels, scrumptious food, and lovely people. What's not to like?”

Matthew Lucas revealed a number of interesting roles in his career, saying some of his favourites included “Tour manager with WWII vets in Libya, volunteer medic with RBL with WWII vets and a guide for schools to the Somme and Ypres.”

Bernie Williams’ favourite was at the Rhuddlan Foundry, while Liam Mcateer said he “used to give the nod on the snake slide at the sun centre, when the next person was allowed to go”, which he says was stressful at times but it was enjoyable.”

Stephen Spencer said his best job was the “nightshift at the Wonderloaf factory”, and Richard Smart said his was as beach patrol for Rhyl and Prestatyn beach for three summers in the late 1990s.

June Sheppard said: “My current job! I'm a mobile Dog groomer. We come to your house, flat and caravan to groom your dog in our VAN and NOT in your house, flat and caravan.”

Hilary Kramer said she “can’t choose between these but my first at Vickers and Son in Rhyl (no longer there) and now Dale and Co the Isle of Man (this will be my last).”

Bruce Fisher said being a “barman at Butlins Pwllheli” was the best he had done.

A number said their military roles were the best, with Tommy Rogers saying: “By far being a part of the family of the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, just sorry I left before completing my full term.”

Phil Barber said his job as a “Tank crewman in a challenger regiment” was his best.

Eileen Carr, Anne Marie Place, and Rachael Wade said being mums was the hardest but best job they’d ever had.

More humorous ones included Jacqui Cooke saying retirement for the last 12 years was the “longest job I’ve ever had”, while Matthew Price said “Chief tester for Stella Artois - in my dreams.”
