DEVELOPERS have submitted plans for three holiday pods in Denbighshire.

Mr and Mrs Paul Salt of Groesfordd Marli, Abergele, have applied to Denbighshire County Council’s planning department, seeking permission to change the use of a paddock at Marllwyn on Glascoed Road, Glascoed.

The plans include car parking, landscaping, and associated works.

The couple provided Denbighshire County Council with a business statement.

“The applicants have researched the market for this kind of holiday environment, particularly since Covid and the country’s lockdown,” it reads.

“The staycation is here to stay. The possible issue would be the lack of high-quality destinations to stay in. The benefit of this application is that it sits within close proximity to our coast and great beaches but also sits within our beautiful countryside, particularly the Vale of Clwyd mountain ranges, ideal for walks, cycling, and days out at the beach.

“The applicants have tried to follow schemes that have already had the support of the planning authority. These projects are now up and running successfully in Denbighshire. This project, however, is better positioned to not only take advantage of the countryside but is only a mile from the A55 allowing visitors to take advantage of the further afield tourist attractions.

“The applicants would of course be looking to promote North Wales at its best. Denbighshire has a growing reputation in the outdoor activity sector, and their policy stated high-quality development proposals that support and enhance the visitor economy of the county will generally be supported and encouraged.

“The proposed development, although small-scale, will be of high quality. The proposed holiday pods will attract a range of different consumers, in particular those looking for an experience with a difference, which is what this proposal will offer once complete.

“The site is ideally located to support the local tourist attractions located along the coast, but also will provide accommodation for those looking for a different type of holiday.”

It concluded: “The applicants are looking to provide for their retirement and see the small-scale project as an ideal opportunity to supplement their income. This new offering would not only provide work for local contractors in the short term but employment to two full-time people going forward.

“This project will take advantage of currently poor quality pastureland and offers something that is not currently available locally.”

The application will now be considered by Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee.
