THE Bishop of St Asaph will lead a service of thanksgiving in memory of Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth II, at St Asaph Cathedral on Sunday.

It is one of numerous services taking place in churches across north-east and mid-Wales this week and over the weekend, ahead of the State Funeral on Monday, September 19, at Westminster Abbey.

At St Asaph Cathedral, the Rt Revd Gregory Cameron will pay tribute to the late Queen and extend his support to the new King, Charles III.

Civic leaders from across north-east Wales have been invited to the service, which begins at 3.30pm. Among those expected to attend are the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd, Lord Barry of Deeside, Lord Martin Thomas of Gresford, several Members of Parliament and the Senedd, councillors and the Police and Crime Commissioner, Andy Dundobbin.

The service is open to everyone, and all are welcome. Additional parking is being made available at the leisure centre by Ysgol Glan Clwyd.

Bishop Gregory said: “This is an opportunity for the community of north Wales to come together to give thanks for the faithful and tireless reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II. I will be paying tribute to Her Majesty and extending our support to King Charles III whom I’ve met on several occasions. We look forward to welcoming him to north Wales as King, in due course.”

A book of condolence is available at St Asaph Cathedral which is open every day until 5.30pm for people to write a message. Floral tributes are being left to her Majesty around the Translators’ Memorial in the Cathedral grounds.

  • 11am - St Margaret’s Church, Bodelwyddan (The Marble Church): Memorial Service for Her Majesty the Queen

Sunday 18 September

  • 11am – St Mark’s Church, Connah’s Quay: A civic service of commemoration
  • 11am – St Mary’s Church, Mold: A Service of Commemoration
  • 11.30am – St Bartholomew's Church, Sealand: A Service of Holy Communion remembering the late Queen
  • 6pm – St Mary’s Church, Chirk: A service of commemoration
  • 6.30pm – St Giles Church, Wrexham: A Memorial Service for the Queen. The Mayor of Wrexham and civic leaders will be present
